Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an entrance test for admission to 17 prominent National Law Universities in India. The test is taken after 12th grade for admission into BA LLB integrated five year course and after Graduation for LLM course. It is an online test and its duration is two hours. The test is conducted by these institutes on rotational basis; CLAT 2016 will be conducted by Rajeev Gandhi National Law University, Patiala.
Passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with the minimum of:- (1) Forty-five percent (45%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/ (Specially Abled Persons) Categories and (2) Forty percent (40%) marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST Category Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May 2016 are also eligible for appearing in CLAT-2016 examination provisionally.There is no upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT-2016 For LLM:
LL.B. or equivalent degree in law examination with a minimum of 55% marks in case of Unreserved/OBC/ (Specially abled persons) categories and 50% marks in case of SC/ST category Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April 2016 are also eligible to appear in CLAT-2016 examination provisionally.No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT-2016

CLAT is an online exam which has 200 questions and carries 200 marks. The students are awarded 1 mark for every correct answer and there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. Following is a brief overview of the CLAT Exam Pattern:

The English section tests the candidate's proficiency in the English language based on comprehension passages and grammar. Candidates are questioned on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc. The CLAT syllabus for this section includes:
The General knowledge section tests students on static as well as current general knowledge. Questions on current affairs test candidates on their knowledge of national and international current affairs. The main aim of this section is to test the candidate's aptitude towards Law. It includes three types of questions:
The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the candidate's ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. This section includes a variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. However, visual reasoning is not tested in this section.
